Estimating how much...

One standard garden-trailer load equals approximately 0.7 of a cubic metre. One cubic metre equals approximately 1.5 standard garden trailers.

Step 1 - Measure your area:

Measure the length, width and depth of the area to be covered.

Step 2 - Multiply those figures:

Step 3 - Compacted to loose conversion:

Whether you pick up or we deliver your material, it is loose and will settle into your area or it may need to be compacted.

Multiply your compacted cubic metres by the following to determine the loose cubic metres of material you need.

  • Mulch – 1.1
  • Garden bed soils – 1.2
  • Sand, stone & aggregate – 1.3

To calculate how much soil is needed for your garden bed multiply 2.8 (banked cubic metres) x 1.2 (compaction allowance). You will need 3.36 loose cubic metres. We recommend that this amount is rounded up and that you order 4.0 cubic metres to avoid running out of material.

We provide this information as a guide only. Calculation methods for different projects will vary and you may need to seek your own advice.
